Deputy Principal's Report - Scott Matthews

Celebrating the Opening of Our New Music Room!

Jamboree Heights State School is thrilled to celebrate the official opening of our brand-new Music Room! This exciting addition to our school provides a dedicated classroom music space, an instrumental music area, and a much-needed new storage facility.

A heartfelt thank you to the parents, learners, and community members who supported this special evening!

This project began in 2021 under the leadership of former Principal Cam Wallace and Business Manager Lauren Cawcutt, and we were delighted to see it completed in 2024 under the guidance of our current Principal, Kathy Canavan. The JHSS P&C played an instrumental role in bringing this vision to life, generously contributing $500 000 to make this space a reality.

Special thanks go to P&C executives Jade Lewis and David Gunsberg, as well as our dedicated Music staff, Deb Brydon and Katherine Zorzetto, for their invaluable contributions during the planning and construction phases. This space would not have come to life without their support!

This new facility will enrich the musical experiences of our students for years to come. We can’t wait to see our young musicians thrive in this fantastic space!

Our first P&C Meeting is taking place this coming week on Monday 17th February at 6:30pm. We are looking forward to planning another fabulous year at Jamboree Heights!

Year 2 Poets Shine with Their Creative Adaptations!

yr2_poetry.png

This week, our talented Year 2 learners have been exploring poetry, putting their own creative twist on the classic poem Mary Had a Little Lamb. Using their imaginations, they adapted the original rhyme to create fresh and exciting versions of the beloved poem.

It has been wonderful to see our young writers experimenting with rhythm, rhyme, and storytelling in such a fun and engaging way.

Here are two fantastic examples from our budding poets in 2B:

Elsie had a Joyful Bird

Elsie had a joyful bird,

Its beak was sharp as a knife.

And everywhere that Elsie strolled,

The bird got into strife.

Isaac had a Massive Shark

Isaac had a massive shark,

Its teeth were sharp as arrows.

And every day that Isaac swam,

The shark stayed in the shallows.

A huge congratulations to all our Year 2 learners for their incredible efforts in poetry writing this week. Keep up the great work – we can't wait to see what you write next!

Sustainability at JHSS

Thank you to one of our amazing parent volunteers, Clare Hourigan, for being such an active supporter of our school. Clare is a key member of our school’s Sustainability Committee, giving up her time to plan and implement a range of programs to support our gardens. This week, Clare was busy starting the Prep Garden with some of our eager Prep gardeners!

We are always looking for parent volunteers to assist in our gardens, please see the poster below!

We also have Containers for Change bins located near OSHC, and up near the pool driveway entrance to the school. Please keep us in mind if you are collecting cans and bottles!
