Library News - Gwen Edwards

Indigenous Literacy Foundation Book Swap

We had a great time at our ILF Book Swap. It was great to see so many wonderful books getting recycled. Thank you for all the gold coin and online donations. At the time of writing, we have raised over $300 for the ILF.

Library Bags

Thank you for sending a library bag or red home folder with your learner on their library day. This helps protect the library books.

Thanks to our lovely library volunteer Gail Pearen, we have lots of spare bags for learners to borrow in the event they forget their own library bag. We would appreciate it if these temporary bags could be returned the next day to the library, to ensure we have enough on hand. We are currently missing many of these temporary bags – if you spot one in your child’s bag or at home, could you please ask them to drop it in to the library?

Here’s some of the latest bags Gail has made! She has also been busy sewing bookmarks for us. Did I mention she also covers most of the books in our library and is well on her way to beat last year’s total of 500 books covered? Thank you, Gail. We appreciate all you do for our library.

CBCA Book Week 2025 – “Book an Adventure”

The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week takes place nationally from 16-23 August. Learners have been enjoying reading some of the shortlisted books and predicting the ones they think will be judged “book of the year” by the CBCA judges.

More information on Book Week activities and competitions will be sent out to families shortly.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Well done to those who have already returned their form! The reading period closes 22 August. Still plenty of time to achieve the 15 books read for year 5 & 6 or 20 books for Prep to year 4. You can access the form here. When finished, print and send back to the library OR feel free to email it to Ms Edwards gedwa16@eq.edu.au or your child’s teacher.
